Community Land Trusts

Community Land Trusts are powerful examples of communities helping themselves. They are non-profit, community-based organizations run by volunteers that develop housing, workspaces, community facilities or other assets that meet the needs of the community, are owned and controlled by the community and are made available at permanently affordable levels.

Community Land Trusts (CLTs) are being set up across the country to help provide affordable homes for local people.  By forming a partnership with a Housing Association, the CLT can lead the housing project and generate a long-term income whilst being protected from the risks involved.  The community then has a financially viable Trust able to take on future projects for the benefit of that community.

The main advantages about this new way of doing things are detailed on the following pages .

Additional information on CLTs can be obtained from the National CLT Network .
